Cigarette Break 09: Chill the Fuck Out
On this episode of the Almost Bare Podcast, Lyndsay Soprano and Jon Ramirez take a cigarette break to lighten things up due to the seriousness of their most recent topics. They talk about news and media giving us all blue balls, and the need to disconnect every once in a while and take care of yourself.
Jon starts the episode off by recapping the last episode, and the mention of the Heartbeat Bill that was creating a huge buzz in the media and has now seemingly dried up. He talks about how working and news radio has made him realize how quickly topics become so blown up and get so much attention, and then just disappear. He feels like this has been the mood of 2019.
Lyndsay tells a story from the other day about her taking a 28-hour “nap” because her body was so exhausted. She’s been having a rough couple of months because of her CRPS and has been overmedicating, making poor decisions, and just overall not taking good care of herself. She attributes this to her CRPS, because her pain has caused her to become depressed and angry. She doesn’t want her pain to own her, she wants to own her pain.
She continues by sharing that she has been on two karaoke dates with a new friend, and that she shocked him and his friends with her amazing singing voice. She sang her go-to, “Black Velvet” by Alannah Myles.
They circle back to talking about media and how things come and go so quickly, and how there is so much “noise” that people can’t keep up. She feels that people are too engaged in technology and need to set boundaries with usage to be able to be more present. She continues by talking about the importance of self-care in order to disconnect and decompress.
They talk about their methods of self-care and how they unwind. Lyndsay reads, walks her dogs, or spends time in her yard. Jon likes playing video games or watching a show alone.
Jon talks about the pressure he feels as a 26-year-old to have everything together and have the world in the palm of his hand. He shares that he recently went to therapy and was told that it’s important to count your small victories and recognize the process.
Lyndsay shares that she’s been struggling with some new, scary CRPS symptoms, such as cognitive issues and tremors. She emphasizes the importance of taking care of yourself before others.
Jon recommends treating yo’ self with some THC if you are in a legal state. Self-care y’all.
